SAPA-NE High School Excellence Scholarship
In accordance with the Sino-American Pharmaceutical Professionals Association (SAPA) Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program (http://www.sapaweb.org/new/index.htm), the SAPA-New England Chapter (SAPA-NE,) has established the SAPA-NE High School Excellence Scholarship (the “SAPA-NE Scholarship”). This is a merit-based award to graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated excellent academic performance and leadership quality during high school education and will pursue the first undergraduate degree at a U.S. accredited institutions after high school graduation.
Eligibility
Applicant must meet the following criteria:
- Award recipients must be a United States citizen or a legal resident alien residing in New England area (MA, NH, RI, VT, CY, ME).
- Graduating high school senior and have a GPA of 3.3 (out of 4.0) or greater and SAT score above 1400 (out of 1600).
- Applicant must be first-time enrollment in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited 4-year college or university in the upcoming academic year.
- Applicant must be in their application materials a statement of interest in career in life sciences.
- Selection will be based on the following criteria: Academic Achievement; Leadership Potential; Community/School Service.
- Members of SAPA-NE Board of Directors, the SAPA-NE Advisory Committee, or the SAPA-NE Scholarship Selection Committee must not participate on the selection process should his or her relative become applicant. Fail to disclose a position of conflict of interest will not only disqualify the candidate, but also leads to a disciplinary action towards the executive member.

Application materials
- Applicants must submit a brief resume which illustrates his/her major accomplishments during his K-12 education.
- An essay (~600 words) to illustrate what he/she wants to pursue at college and what inspired him/her to make such a decision.
- Two letters of recommendation from teachers who can attest and comment on the applicant's achievements and development potentials.
- Application fee ($50) needs to be submitted along with the application. Please make check payable to SAPA-NE. Application fee can be waived if applicants’ parents or legal guardians are SAPA members.

Selection Procedures
An independent Scholarship Selection Committee appointed by the SAPA-NE Executive Committee will evaluate all valid applications and nominate several strongest candidates. SAPA-NE Executive Committee will make the final selection of up to three award recipients.
Applicants will be evaluated on:
- Academic performance, leadership quality, and community/school service.
- Demonstrated potential and commitment to a career aspiration which has a broad impact in the society.
Award Acceptance
Recipients of 2010 SAPA-NE High School Excellence Scholarship will be notified by Scholarship Selection Committee by email and will also be posted at SAPA-NE homepage http://www.sapa-neweb.org/scholarship.html
Upon contact by Scholarship Selection Committee, a SAPA-NE Scholar must submit an acknowledgment letter stating the acceptance of the scholarship award. The recipients and their parents/legal guardians shall attend the 2010 SAPA-NE High School Excellence Scholarship Award Ceremony at 12th SAPA-NE Annual Conference.
