Communicating Successfully Across Cultures

This presentation serves to introduce CAL Learning to SAPA-NE members and friends. With a focus on US and China, this presentation examines how culture and language differences impact communication, behaviors, expectations, and relationships in the workplace. Common language challenges and pronunciation errors for Chinese speakers are also addressed, as well as ways to strategically use phrasing, stress, intonation to be impactful and memorable. Participants will gain knowledge, tips and techniques to improve their culture and communication skills for success in the US workplace and on global teams.

Lauren Supraner is president of CAL Learning, an intercultural communication consulting and training company based in New York. Her workshops and coaching focus on adopting the cultural mindset, persuasive language, and clarity of speech for workplace success and advancement. Lauren is the author of Accent Reduction for Chinese Speakers, and has published articles on cross cultural communication in HR Magazine and Multilingual Magazine. She has lived and worked in Thailand and Japan.
